How Dermal Filler Works
-
Injectables dermal fillers are FDA-approved treatments that temporarily restore volume to specific areas of the face, such as the cheeks, lips, and nasolabial folds (creases that run from each side of the nose down to the corners of the mouth).
-
Injectable dermal fillers are formulated from various substances, with hyaluronic acid (HA) being the main ingredient in most. HA is a water-attracting molecule naturally present in the skin. A modified form of HA is used as the base for many clear, gel-like fillers, which are injected beneath the skin to restore volume to areas like the cheeks, lips, and to smooth facial wrinkles and folds.
-
Once injected, the treatment temporarily blocks muscle contractions, reducing muscle activity and softening the appearance of wrinkles. You may start noticing results within a few days, with continued improvement over the next week, and full results appearing within a few weeks. Retreatment should be scheduled no sooner than every three months.
